At Worksop Post 16 we aim not only to provide an outstanding teaching and learning environment, but also to guide students as they plan for the next stage in their lives.
This has been recognised by Ofsted, who in the latest inspection report, said:
“The sixth form is excellent; you attain high grades at A-Level and leave school very well prepared for further study or training.”
Outwood Post 16 encourages all students to participate in work experience. For some students applying to some university courses, work experience is a requirement, however for others work experience may be an integral part of a BTEC course. For all students it will provide them with a valuable experience of the workplace and the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge to support their future career goals.
Many opportunities will also be offered throughout the year by the centre. These will include both actual and virtual work experiences and will be offered in a range of different careers including medicine, teaching and many other professional vocations.
Students are actively encouraged and supported to secure their own work placement. This placement could be arranged for a week or more in the holiday period, at the end of the school day or in timetabled study periods.There is no doubt this is an enormous advantage when applying for next stages after Post 16.
Our aim for work experience is to:
- Equip students with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to make informed decisions about their learning through a relevant work experience placement;
- Support students with personalised careers information, advice and guidance to help them build up the confidence to take charge of their career development and manage their own progression through learning and work;
- Inspire students to consider a broad and ambitious range of options and to move on to achieve their full potential.
